January Recap, February Intentions

Another month, another post full of empty promises…

Lil baby garlics are poking through! Wheeee!

Ah February, the Month of Love…let me attempt to wax poetic and promptly fall flat on my face. Whatever. It’s gearing up to be a good month, though. For starters, we’ve got the Chiefs going to the Super Bowl (again!), we’ve got Valentine’s Day and two boxes of chocolates for exchange already purchased, we’ve got the final set of birthdays of Birthday Season hitting (well, unless you count my brother-in-law, whose birthday is in like April or something, IDK). And we’ve got the start of Great Lent looming.

Here’s how last month went, and here’s how this month will go. (Positive intentions, folks. Or something like that, my brain isn’t currently working properly. Manifestation?)

Goals & Progress for January

Goal: Read half of a ClassicQuest Novel.
Report: Mostly done — I missed a couple reading days, but I’m almost halfway through Don Quixote, so I consider that a success.

Goal: Read 3 non-ClassicQuest novels.
Report: Done did it. Icebreakers, When the Angels Left the Old Country, and Simon Sort of Says. I also managed to finish The Ogress and the Orphans, meh.

Goal: Write a January update for A Hodgepodge of Huffmans.
Report: By the time this comes out it should be finished. Hopefully.

Goal: Write 4 Emily’s Notebook posts.
Report: 3/4 ain’t bad!

Goal: Write 10k words of Lucy in Love.
Report: I don’t exactly remember how far I got. Maybe another 5k words? I lost steam mid-month. Whuf.

Goal: Complete 31 3-ring days on the Apple Watch.
Report: Started out with the best of intentions, lost the streak halfway through the month, never quite got back to it. It’s fine. Everything is fine.

Goal: Get into the 140’s.
Report: Does seeing 149.8 flash on the scale mid-morning on a fasting day count? If so, YES. I did it. Actually, I got all the way down to 149.2 for a full day before dipping back up into the low 150’s. Progress, no?

Goal: Begin the 12 Days of Christmas ornament project.
Report: “I mean, assuming I manage to embroider that last damned flower petal on the rainbow sampler.” Which. I didn’t. This is ridiculous. Why have I not finished this yet? I’m literally halfway through my last flower petal. I should leave it undone as a testament to my inability to finish any project, sigh.

Goal: Make 2 recipes from The Bread Baker’s Apprentice.
Report: I kind of halfway did this — I made Anadama from BBA. But…that was because I decided to do something much more insane. And if you’ve been reading my 5 Things posts, you know exactly what it is…

Goal: Make one cocktail per week.
Report: I haven’t really been feeling this one, so I’ll drop it. Maybe when we have our Forever Home with space for a full bar, and the old-timey cocktail book that must have gotten packed up with the rest of our non-chosen books.

February Goals

Goal: Finish Don Quixote. Maybe. If I get within spitting distance of the end, I’ll be satisfied.

Goal: Read 3 non-ClassicQuest novels. I’m partway through Navigating Early, and should also finish American Nations this month, so checking this one off shouldn’t be too much of a stretch.

Goal: Write January’s Hodgepodge of Huffman update. Same as always.

Goal: Write 4 blog posts. Same as always. And with a good strategy in place, finally!

Goal: Write 10k words of Lucy in Love. Same as always. Sigh.

Goal: Get 29 3-ring days on my Apple Watch. Maybe? I don’t know if this is even still worth going after, at this point.

Goal: Get into the 140’s. Or something. Goal is 148, but I’ll be happy if I can enter into the 140’s and just hang out there for a bit.

Goal: Begin the 12 Days of Christmas ornament project. For real this time.

Goal: Complete each week of 52 Weeks of Cooking. Yeppers! I’m insane and second-guessing myself, and meanwhile still working toward the goal each week. Tonight I made crepes to fulfill the Normandy requirement.

Goal: Complete each week of 52 Weeks of Baking. DOUBLE TROUBLE. Ima do it. Really. And I’m not going to be anal about it, either. Right now I’m a couple weeks behind, but I can catch up later if I want to/have the bandwidth. One week at a time, for now.
