Five Things for April 19

The April-est April of Aprils

  1. I had a rough time getting my wheels spinning in a forward trajectory this week. Not sure why — I’m just straight exhausted. Well, okay. There are a few culprits. Perhaps it was staying up until midnight on Thursday to watch Turandot at the Met. Perhaps it was the fact that both Ambrose and Jarrod got the plague on Sunday afternoon, and I slept in Ambrose’s bedroom to avoid having to listen to Jarrod moan all night, and by then Ambrose was mostly feeling better and kept waking me up to eat more crackers and take sips of water. Maybe that was it. In any case, I haven’t been doing my daily bullet journal setups, which leads to me not getting much done in general and then feeling like a lay-zay slob…ugh. As I’m typing this, I seem to have hit my Wednesday Wall. I took a nap and chugged my Vietnamese Coffee Boba Tea Protein shake (more on that in a second) and still feel like I could sleep for another hour. Workout? Probably not gonna happen. I think my body needs a break.
  2. Speaking of Sunday, we all enjoyed watching the new Bluey episode, The Sign. I need to give it a re-watch, I was distracted by trying to share one tiny loveseat with three squirrelly children, one of whom insisted on taking up the entire space by laying down and moaning about his stomach (yes). My initial thoughts: it was enjoyable, I loved all the little easter eggs (there were some that the kids got that I didn’t!), and I loved the ripple effect of everything happening as they searched for Frisky. I didn’t *love* the ending though. Like, even if a buyer did pull out that late into the process, how realistic is it that the family would just say “Okay, you know what? We’re abandoning this whole plan of Dad starting his new, better-paying job and just gonna stay right here where we’ve always been.” Really? Is that a message you want to send to kids? But anyway, overall it was an 8/10 for me. A very sweet episode.
  3. Boba Tea Protein arrived! Y’all. It is so good. So deliciously coffee yum and doesn’t taste protein-y at all. I’m immediately a devoted customer and will try and and all flavors this company puts out. (Well. Probably not the pumpkin spice flavor, and I’m really not into killing myself via pre-workout, so I’ll be avoiding that too. But the rest of the proteins, man! Yeah!)
  4. My Free People The Way Home workout shorts and bra arrived, too (the top will be here Saturday, probably). The shorts elastic is a lot more constricting than the knockoff Target version I got last year, and the size large fits me a lot better than medium (which, le sigh). I’m still trying to decide if I like them. I don’t hate them, and I won’t be sending them back. But the elastic tends to ride down a bit once I start exercising. The bra is a nope — too large of a band, unfortunately. That’s what I get for purchasing a bra that only has S/M/L sizes (versus actual bra sizing).
  5. 2/3 of the kids had a weight check at the pediatrician’s office on Thursday. Ambrose I figured was good — he’s just been looking a lot more solid lately, and indeed, he’d gained 4 lbs since his well visit back in January. Liesl, I wasn’t so sure about, especially with the tummy bug setback. And yep — her weight hasn’t budged a single tenth of a pound since her initial intake visit last fall. Sigh. The doctor isn’t super concerned, given that she’s sleeping/digesting/acting just fine and seems to have a healthy appetite. But we’ll go back in the fall just to verify that there’s been some growth. Summer goal: fatten this kid up! She’s always tended to skirt the line of acceptable weight, which continually just stinks.
