January Writing Update: Slow and Steady

Not sure I’m winning any races here, but at least I’m getting back into a groove.

Last month I was just starting to come out of a bit of a writing funk. I can’t say I’m much further out of it — December is a hard month in general with all the holiday disruptions — but I do have some progress to report.

Re: Basically Yours, I’m still…sort of in the process of putting it into the Story Grid format, but I may press pause on that. NBD. Because…

It’s a new year! I get to draft Lucy in Love now! I’m a little worried I have a dud of a story here, but I at least have all the scenes mapped out (with a bit of wiggle room), so I’ll write and see where it takes me. Mostly I’m excited to get Lucy and Rupert in the same room together. Sparks! They will fly! As I type this, we’re four days into the new year and I’ve got about a scene and a half written — keeping in mind the maxim that a “potato chip scene” length is around 2,000 words. My wordcount goal each day is 1,000 words, but of course, my family is in town and the new year started on a weekend. So. Grace is being given. I’m happy to have found any time to write at all!

Re: Em’s Notebook, this past month I slacked a wee bit, but again — holidays. We’ve had guests almost nonstop since before Christmas, and these darn relations won’t be leaving for another week! (Well, to be accurate — my family is leaving on Thursday in the wee hours, then Jarrod’s family comes back on like, Saturday or something for a slightly extended Ambrose birthday weekend. So I guess I’ll get a small break.)

Actually, looking back I didn’t do too poorly. Since my previous writing update, I wrote about the stinky deliciousness that is bacalao, shared my favorite THM hot drink base, gushed on a random notebook I love, shared my resolutions (er, intentions?) for the year, and wrote about my new-style TBR list and 2022 reading aspirations.

As far as January writing goes…I don’t know what exactly will happen! It’s looking like the weird life curveball is a go-ahead, and that starts on January 31. So theoretically I could continue on with my writing this month as planned. If that’s the case, Ima write some awesome Lucy in Love scenes and bust out some great Em’s Notebook posts. Beyond January…who knows! I hope to at least type out some quick entries throughout the craziness of the program, even if they’re not frilly or completely photo free.

But we’ll see. We shall see.
