Seasonal Leisure Plan: Fall 2023

A la Cal Newport

The short intro: I like to start my “year” (resolution-wise, intention-wise, etc) in September because it feels right — it’s the church new year, plus it’s kind of the unofficial start of fall, and I like following the seasons for theoretical leisure plans that I never end up following. (But this one I will! I promise, Cal! I promise.)

Here’s this year’s intention list, if you’d like to take a look. And how to accomplish it? Break the larger goals down into seasonal goals! Become a digital minimalist and actually be intentional about leisure time, for once! The following is my Seasonal Leisure Plan for the next 3 months:

Seasonal Leisure Plan: Fall 2023

  • Read 2-3 ClassicQuest books (30 minutes per night before bed).
  • Read 8 non-ClassicQuest books (1 hour audiobook per day, during exercise periods and cleaning up the house).
  • Write 1 Em’s Notebook post per week (hey-o!).
  • Write 1 Hodgepodge of Huffmans update per month.
  • Finish the fall embroidery I’ve been working on for the past 3 years. (Unsure when I’ll have time to do this, maybe while things are loading at work, or maybe while listening to an audiobook in the evening?)
  • Buy and nurture 1 plant.
  • Write 30k pages of a new manuscript — either The Hallmark Project or A Marriage of Convenience.
  • Read 2 read-alouds to the kids –> Matilda and Little House in the Big Woods.

All in all, maybe a bit ambitious, but do-able? I hope to do a debrief post at the end of November before I set my Winter Leisure Plan up.

Want to create one for yourself? This is a cool template I may adopt in the future. Or, just go for the list like I’ve done!
