This is a silly one, I know. But as a mom, I find it difficult to do anything beyond basic hygiene. It’s enough to brush my teeth twice a day, man! Skincare? Makeup? Who has time for all that?

Well, me. If I make time. Because honestly, putting a modicum of effort into my face really doesn’t take long. It takes…yes, say it with me. Five minutes. Five minutes to feel just that slight bit less like a Mombot. So pull on the skinny jeans, and set that side part just right. In the words of my dad, every morning growing up, it’s time to “make ourselves pretty.”

(Dad was the one making himself pretty. In case that wasn’t clear.)

The Components, Part I

Here’s a photo of everything I use for my face. (Well, minus the perfume at the very front. That goes on my body.) I subscribe to FabFitFun (not a paid ad) so a lot of the random skincare stuff I get comes from there. Someday I’ll make more of an effort to find out what works best for me. That’s not today. Probably not this week, either.

In any case, right now, in the mornings, I put on a toner, essence, vitamin C serum, an under-eye retinol cream, and SPF moisturizer. Does any of it do anything? I don’t know. Stay tuned for that riveting update.

The Components, Part II

Here’s my makeup drawer. I keep it pared down to what I really use, which is: concealer, foundation, bronzer or a highlighter stick depending on how I’m feeling, an eyeshadow palette, mascara, and lip stuff. Sometimes I’ll also powder my face. Again, I don’t know why exactly. Now I’m foreseeing a series of posts about skincare and makeup! Ah, perhaps someday.

Anyway, the point I’m trying to make here is that all this stuff can be slapped on in five minutes, give or take, and the difference it makes to my mental state is huge. I feel less schlubby and more pulled-together.

See? Here’s the before…

And here’s the after…

Boom. A five-minute face, in a five-minute post. Now, go. Find something more useful to do with your time than read me yammer on. We all get the same 24 hours each day, babyyyyy.
