Bringing back a retro post format for funsies.

  1. Unsure of how often I’ll get to post here, but I’ve got a lot of things swirling around in my brain, and so I’M BACK. For the time being. Current status: finished with Catalyte and waiting for someone to give me a jerb. (And also actively seeking. Bleh.) Yesterday I had a call with a Google recruiter and, whoo. Still trying to figure out if that’s the dream, because boy will it involve a lot of studying if it is. But I have an internal reference, a super sweet dude that was like an annoying kid brother to me when I studied Bangla the summer semester in Kolkata. And, like. Google would be cool to work at. If I can hack it. Stay tuned for that journey. Tomorrow I have a call with another recruiter who has worked with new Catalyte grads in the past, so hopefully that’s just as encouraging.
  2. Kids are good. I gave Ambrose the Kindergarten assessment he’ll have to do at the end of the month, and he passed with flying colors. Though he was a bit hesitant on where things like his heels, ankles, and wrists were…seriously, he has to have that specialized of body parts down? I scored him at 96/100, but I am his mom. We’ll see how he actually does in a few weeks.
  3. I’ve been re-reading French Women Don’t Get Fat, and it’s always just sort of inspirational. No weird diets. Simplify. Slow down and really enjoy fruit, Em! I love the general idea of it, but where I struggle is knowing when to stop at satisfaction. I definitely have a compulsion to clean my plate, even if I’m not enjoying something to the fullest.
  4. Fashion show! Fashion show! Fashion show at lunch! I’ve got a box from J. Crew and a bag of J. Crew Factory in my bedroom waiting to be torn into. All my clothes are just getting dingy or out of style, or some combination of the two. It’s time for a wardrobe update. I’ll share my favorite things, one of these days.
  5. Ah, see, this is why I had trouble doing Five Things before! What is my final Thing today? Well, I’m nearing the end of Gone With the Wind. It’s been A Journey. I don’t like Scarlett or Rhett, and the whole book is horribly racist. But compulsively readable too, so there we go. In any case, Scarlett just got caught in a friendly embrace with Ashley Wilkes, the horror. And Rhett made her go to Mellie’s surprise party for Ashley all the same! And Mellie insisted on keeping Scarlett by her side the whole time! If there’s one redeeming character in the book, it’s Mellie. I want to be like Mellie when I grow up.
I haven’t seen the film but I imagine she’s saying “Will you help me greet my guests?” and this is the exact scene I’m talking about. AWKWARD.
