February Recap, March (!) Intentions

Somehow we’re beginning the third month of the year

Spring really decided to hit hard today. Not sure why it felt so lovely — it barely reached 50°F, if at all — but something was in the air for sure. The humidity, perhaps. Aside from a slight dip later this week (I’m writing this on Monday pre-March) it’s supposed to stay this way for the foreseeable future. Love it! False spring? Maybe. But I’ll take it.

I debated whether to put this post off until next Friday, but decided to just go for it. It’s March, anyway. Or…it will be once I post this!

Goals & Progress for February

Goal: Finish Don Quixote.
Report: Monday Me is reporting that I have each day mapped out to be able to finish on Thursday! Friday Me says…YES! I did it! RIP, Don Quixote.

Goal: Read 3 non-ClassicQuest novels.
Report: Not a stretch, as anticipated. I finished Navigating Early (which I believe I wrote about in a 5 Things post from this month, and knocked out Iveliz Explains It All, finished American Nations (after, erm, 3 months? of reading it in bits and bites each morning).

Goal: Write a February update for A Hodgepodge of Huffmans.
Report: Should be good here, if this week has any mercy on me at all. (Actually, I intend to do the draft as soon as I finish my initial Monday-night run-through of this.)(Update: this week did not have mercy on me but MAYBE JUST MAYBE I can get it out after I come back from watching Dune Part 2. It’s not too late!

Goal: Write 4 Emily’s Notebook posts.
Report: Did I? I think I did — and if not, it’s because it was a shorter month. I really don’t think I missed a week. Woo!

Goal: Write 10k words of Lucy in Love.
Report: Did I even write 100 words of anything? I don’t think so. No, I mean, I did. I started my shiny new Marriage of Convenience and that got a whole lot of nowhere. I need to modify my goals, man.

Goal: Complete 31 3-ring days on the Apple Watch.
Report: Nah.

Goal: Get into the 140’s.
Report: I think I did for a few days, and then…back up. Eh.

Goal: Begin the 12 Days of Christmas ornament project.
Report: Do I really need to go over this one again? NO OKAY, I HAVEN’T FINISHED MY EMBROIDERY SAMPLER.

Goal: Complete each week of 52 Weeks of Cooking.
Report: I didn’t do every week, but got in 2/4, which…is something? My motivation might be flagging, though. Might put this goal to the side (until the itch happens again next January, inevitably…)

Goal: Complete 52 Weeks of Baking
Report: Again, 2/4. See above.

February Goals

Goal: Something reading-related. Maybe start The Brother’s K or the next book from the classical education book. A Pilgrim’s Progress!

Goal: Read 3 non-ClassicQuest novels. I’m nearing the end of Redwall, and now that American Nations is done I can focus on finishing Till We Have Faces. So, this one should yet again be fairly easy to knock out this month.

Goal: Write January’s Hodgepodge of Huffman update. Same as always.

Goal: Write 4 blog posts. Same as always.

Goal: Figure out a SMART way to measure writing progress. Maybe outline the first 10 scenes of a new novel. Maybe write random scene snippets of each one. I don’t know, exactly. Something to help me build and not lose steam. (I have a plan, actually. I just need to commit to a novel to spend the next 3 years with!)

Goal: Finish the next 4 weeks of Epic Heat. This is really the only health and fitness goal I have right now. My weight can do what it wants, but I do want to work steadily toward the end of Heat. I have an accountability group, and as of today I’m still on track. Feels good!

Goal: Create a big Team Huffman Intentional Family Life binder. I need to figure out exactly what this will look like — I have big goals and plans that involve integrating habit training, responsibilities, encouraging age-appropriate independence/self-sufficiency, family traditions, writing daily reports of favorite things the kids did and ways to improve, ETCETERA. I don’t know yet. But when I come up with it, I’ll report on it.

Really, that’s it. Life’s bee hitting hard lately, and I need to lighten things up a bit. I’ll have time for crazy goals when the kids are teenagers and can wipe their own butts. Right now, that last thing — family — is the most important.
