November Budget Update: Big Spender Energy

Well, still no word back yet on the Catalyte program, so while I wait (and wait, and wait…) I may as well bang out a few words on here. This week it’s all about the grocery budget. Again.

I’ll keep it brief, because there’s not too much to say, really. As I’m typing this it’s the 22nd of November and we’ve spent $651 of our $500 budget. Ewps. And I’m already putting together a list of things I’ve forgotten in preparation for Thanksgiving on Thursday.

What I Did Right: Everything! Didn’t I? I’m still a little confused as to where our grocery money went this month. We even had an in-law visit, and that usually relieves some of the budgetary stress.

What I Could Have Done Better: Well, there was one Costco trip that set me back $170. But like $50 of that was diapers, and $40 was a fancy (organic, etc.) Thanksgiving turkey. So I guess without that expenditure we would have been a lot better off? Well, whatev.

What I’ll Focus On Next Month:

  • Cooking from the pantry. The past few meals I’ve actually done really well with this. Mostly because I’m overwhelmed and don’t want to put together elaborate meals. Last night we had a build-your-own burrito night, and it was pretty darn good!
  • Reducing food waste. Again. Gotta get better about not letting zucchini die.
